That’s so Gen Z of you: here’s the rundown on targeting Gen Z

Are you wanting to target the young generation known as ‘Gen Z’? Then you’ve come to the right place.

We know you’re thinking, “who even is Gen Z?” Well, the definition of who qualifies as Gen Z will vary, depending on who you ask… The truth is, many don’t know who Gen Z is and tend to group them together with Millennials as one whole demographic… “They’re all young” right?

Wrong.

So, what are the real differences between Gen Z vs. Millennials?

As you can see here - it's quite a difference between the ages (except for those who’re on the cusp, like those born in 97 and 98. How you market your business to Gen Z vs Millennials will be surprisingly different. So, in today’s blog, we’re going to give you some pointers, so you’ll keep your Gen Z audience guessing, and addicted to your brand.

How to best market your brand to Gen Z:

You need to speak their language

Good communication is key. Do your best to describe things in an ‘easy to understand’ and relatable way. If you’re feeling way out of your depth, it’s time to learn from the best. Keep an eye on Gen Z creators, listen to their content, and learn their lingo. In other words, give your vocab a ‘glow-up’, if you will.

Be accessible to them

Let’s face it, Gen Zr’s are basically attached to their smartphones, which means they’re likely to be heavily using apps like Instagram and TikTok. This means you need to be where they are, and not where they aren’t. Use the favoured platforms to connect with them on a deeper level. Even create a poll and ask them what they wanna see. Make short-form video part of your strategy and follow viral trends.

Say yes to influencers

This is a big one! Say yes to influencers to further humanize your brand. The truth is influencers don’t have to cost the world. There are plenty of micro-influencers (those with 5000 followers or less), who’re actively posting on The Gram and TikTok. If you don’t have a big budget to work with, simply focus on sending your product to your desired influencers. Put some thought and effort into your packaging, you want to have that “wow factor” to entice them to record an unboxing video. Always leave a thoughtful card with your item that they can read when they receive your item.         This will give the creator an insight into who you are and what you’re about. Let them know that you love their content, who knows - this could be the start of an everlasting partnership.
